Service Operations Manager - Growing Mechanical Contractor - Base to $90k + Bonus, Company Vehicle, Gas, Benefits

Our client, a stable, fast-growing mechanical contractor handling service, installation, and preventative maintenance, has an immediate need for a Service Operations Manager to oversee the Service Team in the Richmond, VA area. Our client has been in business for 50 years and has a stellar reputation in the industry.

In this role, the Service Manager will lead a Service Team of around 20 people who are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systems in commercial buildings.  This team is made up of service technicians and project installers.  In addition to leading the team, the Service Manager will also serve as a senior company representative, working directly with customers, vendors, suppliers and more to advise on the project status and/or requirements.

As a summary, tasks include: 

  • Scheduling and providing technical support for techs.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and train HVAC techs.
  • Supervise the team.
  • Review the technicians work to make sure quality and safety standards are being met.
  • Handle performance appraisals and formal reviews of service team.
  • Establish and maintain a training program in order to inform on latest service techniques and safety procedures.
  • Work with dispatch to make sure personnel is bring properly scheduled.
  • Develop and monitor budgets to optimize profitability.
  • Help to generate sales leads by promoting maintenance/service agreements, estimates and bids.
  • Handle payroll daily.

Compensation for this position will include a base salary in the $70k-$90k range with and annual bonus based on the performance of the Service Department.  Also included will be a company vehicle and gas card.  The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, 401k, PTO and much more.  Additionally, there are other perks tied to company culture that make it a plus to work for this family-owned business!

Requirements for this role include at least 5 years of HVAC management experience, leading a team of field service techs.  Candidate should have a strong in-depth understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems, and the ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics and control circuits.  Candidate should have H1, H2, and H3 license, and/or willingness to obtain.  Must have excellent leadership, customer service and general sales skills.
