Procurement Specialist - Metal Recycling and Steel Processing - Base Salary to 85k/year - Tampa, FL
- Our client is a leading metal recycling and steel processing organization with high-volume operations across the Southeast. They are seeking a Procurement Specialist (MRO) to support a busy recycling facility by ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, parts, and services critical to maintaining operational uptime. This role supports ferrous scrap processing and heavy equipment operations, partnering closely with maintenance and yard teams to ensure equipment reliability and efficient plant performance.
Responsibilities
- Source and procure MRO materials including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and wear parts for heavy industrial equipment
- Support procurement needs for ferrous scrap processing operations (shears, shredders, balers, conveyors, magnets, and mobile equipment)
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers to support continuous operations
- Lead RFQs and competitive bidding processes to drive cost-effective purchasing
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements with vendors
- Manage supplier performance, resolve discrepancies, and oversee claims or returns
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through vendor consolidation and strategic sourcing
- Execute purchasing transactions and manage procurement lifecycle within ERP systems
- Analyze quotes, historical spend, and market pricing to support purchasing decisions
- Manage spare parts inventory to support uptime of processing equipment and mobile fleet (e.G., excavators, material handlers, loaders)
- Conduct cycle counts and audits to ensure inventory accuracy and availability
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to anticipate and plan for equipment needs
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and finance teams
- Maintain procurement documentation, reporting, and compliance standards
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime
Qualifications
- 3+ years of MRO procurement or purchasing experience in metal recycling, steel, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience supporting scrap processing equipment or similar heavy machinery environments strongly preferred
- Knowledge of ferrous materials, industrial equipment, or plant operations is a plus
- Proven ability to negotiate pricing and manage supplier relationships
- Hands-on ERP experience (SAP preferred)
- Strong understanding of inventory control and maintenance support operations
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Compensation:
- Base salary up to 85k/year plus performance-based bonus
