Mechanical Design Engineer - Food Processing Equipment Manufacturing - Base Salary to 120k/year - Omaha, NE

  • Our client, a well-established Manufacturer of Food Processing Equipment, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer proficient in Solidworks who is familiar with both the Food Industry as well as Metal Manufacturing (welding, fabrication, CNC Machining) to work onsite at their Omaha, NE location, managing 3 to 5 concurrent projects from design to completion. Our client has been in business for over 20 years and is highly focused on quality and customer satisfaction! 

Responsibilities:

  • Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm shift
  • Create drawings, specifications and perform calculations to design precision equipment to meet the customers’ expectations, timelines and requirements in the food processing industry
  • Design a complete project, system, component, and/or individual piece of custom equipment from concept to manufacturing, including assembly and testing
  • Reverse engineer or create new parts for existing or newly designed equipment
  • Generate bill of materials and drawings for manufacturing
  • Use Continuous Improvement methodology for design modifications
  • Provide technical support to the specifications of customer requests
  • Work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering colleagues
  • Investigate and address quality control and manufacturing concerns with designs
  • Collaborate with sales, manufacturing re: quality and cost
  • Manage inventory and availability of purchased parts/ materials for projects
  • Research, design, evaluate, assist in the assembly, and testing of equipment
  • Monitor assigned design projects from concept to completion assisting as needed
  • Utilize SolidWorks to generate drawings & models for fabrication and production
  • Write manuals, part lists, exploded views, assembly directions & renderings
  • Present design projects to teams for design review
  • Collaborate with machining, fabrication and assembly
  • Evaluate equipment and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering for food processing equipment manufacturing (metal fabrication, welding, machining)
  • Knowledge of Food Industry compliance regulations
  • Proficiency in Solidworks software for drafting/ drawing from concept through design and manufacturing 

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 85k - 120k/year range
