Director of Sustainable Construction - Multifamily Developer/Builder - Base Salary to 120k/year - Orlando, FL

  • Our client is a fully integrated real estate development and investment management firm that has grown to become one of the largest multifamily developers in the United States.
  • Currently, they are seeking a Director of Sustainable Construction to act decisively, think green, and build and manage their green certification processes/division. The Director of Sustainable Construction can work out of one of the following offices: Athens, GA; Brunswick, GA; or Orlando, FL.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for collecting, modeling, and presenting data on building energy performance and the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) process.
  • Identify and maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methods as they impact the delivery of third-party certified green building designs.
  • Work with project engineers and design teams to establish sustainable design and certification goals.
  • Maintain a scorecard for multifamily buildings that are compliant with the ICC/ASHRAE 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) requirements.
  • Manage field verification and testing services at active construction sites.
  • Assist in developing standardized on-site inspections and verifying project compliance with energy, green building, and above-code programs.
  • Assist in scheduling and compiling data from Energy Code Inspections for city and local jurisdictions.
  • Oversee Indoor Air Quality Testing, Envelope Enclosure testing (Blower Door), Duct Tightness testing, airflow, Pressure testing, and photometric testing related to energy and green building codes.
  • Review and verify systems and archive documents for Green Building Compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to communicate the field-observed inspected and non-compliant items related to green building and energy code compliance.
  • Ensure quality assurance, control, and consistency, sharing best practices across projects.
  • Provide oversight for construction loan draws, including loan approval/conditions and draw requests, and assist in maintaining accurate draw records in collaboration with construction management and the finance and accounting teams.
  • Provide executive updates at project milestones, including managing and archiving routine reports and specifications data.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess green building credentials or be able to become certified in a variety of code and above-code certifications, including (but not limited to) Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS) Rater, NGBS Verifier, ENERGY STAR, Building Commissioning Professional, and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Inspector.
  • 3+ years of progressive professional experience in leading, green-certified projects or a combination of education and construction management is required.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) is desired.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and data collection related to Green Building Compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans
  • Familiarity with building energy systems and equipment.
  • Current certifications in ENERGY STAR, NGBS, HERS, and IECC are a plus
  • Familiar with energy and building sciences.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products.
  • Ability to read, understand, and manage construction plan documentation.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in using and applying project management technology tools and continually seek opportunities to develop our team.
  • Regular travel - up to 50% to stakeholder meetings and construction sites.

  • Base salary in the 100k – 120k/year range
