Controller - Building Products Manufacturer - Base Salary to 100k/year - Allegan, MI

  • Our client is a 12+ year old company specializing in composite products that are energy efficient and sustainable for the high growth commercial building industry. The company specializes in continuous insulation by providing one of a kind Composite Sub-Framing Systems that meet the most recent ASHRAE requirements for commercial building envelopes. Their goal is to empower individuals that can multi-task in a fast-paced environment and are detailed driven to join their growing team. They’ve made the Inc. 5000 list consecutively for 3 years as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the country.
  • Currently they are experiencing growth and are in need of a Controller to join their team. The Controller provides operational support to the organization. The Controller reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, and forecasting needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations including GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition, weekly, monthly and annual
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget, financial forecasts and report variances
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements
  • Preparing, review and analyze financial and statistical reports and maintain monthly dashboards and weekly financial summary reports and projections
  • Oversee cash flow management
  • Maintain accurate product costings and perform product margin analysis
  • Ensure inventory is properly valued, tracked and reported
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ERP implementation principles, practices and methodologies, a plus
  • Communicate and build relationships with banks/financial Institutions and CPA firm(s)
  • Work with the President/CEO on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships on city, state, and national levels, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts.
  • Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the CEO and Executive Management Team in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective product delivery
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state and other required supplementary schedules and information
  • Manage, develop and build accounting team

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of applicable business experience of which 3+ must be in a financial leadership role
  • Manufacturing experience is strongly preferred - Ideally experienced in both private and public sectors
  • Ability to navigate through complex financial situations to maximize results
  • Experience managing treasury, finance, accounting and compliance functions with the necessary processes and internal controls to safeguard the corporate assets
  • Strong costing and inventory management background, ability to maintain accurate overhead rates and inventory valuation processes
  • Experience with product costing as well as customer and product analysis

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 80k – 100k/year range
