Construction Estimator - Construction GC - Base Salary to 170k/year - Goldens Bridge, NY

  • Our client is a family-owned construction GC that has been operating in New York since 1969.   • The Construction Estimator will be a key player on this local team in Goldens Bridge, NY. The Construction Estimator will work to maintain document control, build project scope through quantity surveying, will prepare bids/proposal books or letters, and work with Project Managers during the Procurement phase up to project-hand-off meetings.


  • Load drawings onto Onscreen Takeoff with Estimate Number & Project Title
  • Prepare Invites to Bid (ITB) and issue to Subcontractors; solicit Sub/Vendor pricing
  • Perform quantity surveys / take offs of required scope (Review of Drawings, Specs, Addenda)
  • Attend Site Visits / Pre-Bid Conferences; take photos
  • Prepare and issue Requests for Information if project scope /details unclear
  • Initiate and maintain dialogue with Subs/Vendors during bid / pricing period (heavy phone / email confirmation)
  • Goal: minimum of 3 quotes per Trades
  • Distribute Addenda / RFI responses to Subs / Vendors
  • Advise Chief Estimator (DAB) if Bid Bond is required
  • Prepare rough schedule to understand overall duration, phasing, logistics; reflect in General Conditions
  • Review and understand Bid Submission Form(s) requirements
  • Create Estimate in Sage Estimating
  • Enter scope and quantities into Sage Estimating; assign proper data base, pricing, etc.
  • Receive and evaluate Sub/Vendor quotes
  • Compile and organize Sub/Vendor quotes by Trade; prepare a Record of Proposal cover sheet
  • Review estimate with Chief Estimator
  • Formulate Bid day Worksheet with Chief Estimator
  • Includes Andron Estimate Values and Sub/Vendor quotes
  • Complete Bid Form(s) with Chief Estimator
  • Prepare List of Assumptions / Qualifications
  • Set up and attend scope meetings with low responsive bidder(s). May be held over phone if small trade / scope
  • Confirm scope, pricing and Sub/Vendor qualifications
  • Negotiate Best and Final offers
  • Write Subcontract agreements / Purchase Orders
  • Review any Subcontractor / Vendor mark up of Sub Agreement or Purchase Order
  • Participate in Hand-Off meeting with assigned Operations Team


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Business Administration is preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant construction estimating experience preferably for a general contractor
  • The ability to read and interpret construction documents (blueprints, shop drawings, etc.)
  • Analytical problem-solving ability with a very strong attention to detail with numbers
  • Strong experience with construction software i.e. On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline,
  • Microsoft Office, CAD, Bluebeam, Navisworks, ProjectSight, etc.
  • Work requires a willingness to have a flexible schedule with occasional job-site visits and local travel to projects for pre-bid walks and pre-bid meetings


  • Base salary in the 90k – 170k/year range

What motivates you? – My favorite quote is from Will Durant summarizing the works of Aristotle that reads, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” My goal in life is to always be better today, than I was yesterday. Not only for myself but for the people I choose to surround myself with. Every day I want to impact someone in a positive light and the consistent habit of excellence is what gets me out of bed every morning. 

When did you start selling? – My dad told me once when I was a teenager that “you could sell ice to an Eskimo.” So ever since then I think I’ve had a knack for it. I absolutely love meeting and talking to people so it’s always been a gift I’ve had. 

What is your favorite show or shows to binge watch? The Office, Lost, Stranger Things, Blue Bloods (just to name a few). I’m also a HUGE movie person, I absolutely love a good long movie that can draw in your attention and make you think.
