Construction Estimator – Banking Industry Construction – Base Salary to 90k/year – Arlington Heights, IL

  • Our client is a commercial GC that specializes in construction on financial businesses throughout Illinois and the upper Midwest. Projects range from remodeling to full ground up projects, largely for the banking and financial industries. They have been in the business since 1972, and pride themselves on quality and hands-on management of their projects.
  • In this role, the Construction Estimator will be responsible for bidding, as well as reviewing rough order of magnitude Estimates and negotiating with subcontractors. This will involve hands-on, in-office collaboration, as well as occasional travel to job sites, including (infrequently) out of state. This role will focus on the ground-up construction side of their business, to include civil/utilities/earthworks.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze blueprints, specs, proposals, and other documentation
  • Prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, and services
  • Review rough order of magnitude Estimates
  • Calculate accurate labor, equipment, and material costs for commercial construction jobs
  • Coordinate subcontractor bids, including preparing bid invitations, reviewing incoming bids for scope and pricing, scheduling site visits with subcontractors to review the scope of projects, acquiring best pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, and developing bid presentations
  • Make estimates when predetermined standards are unavailable
  • Works with the operations team throughout the preconstruction process in reviewing plans and specifications for constructability issues and determining general requirements on the project
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, as necessary
  • Prepare project documents, material release schedules, client information, project schedules and other documentation to assure a steady stream of information to the Project Managers
  • Travel to job sites as necessary to collect measurements and photographs, including occasionally out of state overnight travel (frequency varies, 1 – 3 times a month)

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of ground up Estimating experience required, commercial construction preferred
  • Civil/utilities Estimating experience preferred
  • GC experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Excel required, proficiency with other Estimating software (such as Procore) preferred
  • Experience with design related activities or project management is preferred
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret plans and specifications relative to the scope of work and schedule specified for each project within bid time frame
  • Must have experience with architectural and structural drawings
  • Must have experience building relationships with subcontractors
  • Candidates must be able to work full time in the office setting
  • Must have the ability to occasionally travel to different cities/states for 2-3 days at a time

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 75k – 90k/year range, dependent on experience
  • Comprehensive medical benefits package

  • Per Diem for any necessary travel along with fully paid travel expenses
